Break That Soda Habit
Lots of people are addicted to drinking soda. This popular sweetened carbonated beverage can be too irresistible for many people to avoid. It can easily lead to an addiction as the body gets accustomed to the sugar rush. Once the habit settles in, it can be quite hard to stop. But all is not lost. There are different ways to break out of that soda habit. Here are some tips that might help.
Do it slowly and gradually.
Just like any other habit, getting off soda drinking may be quite a challenge to do. You may have a better chance of success if you do not go cold turkey so suddenly. Try to wean yourself off the habit by drinking less and less of your favorite soda over a period of time. Doing so will let you crave for it less and less by not using drastic measures to quit drinking. Over time, you might be able to totally break from the habit as you find other healthier alternatives to drink.
Search for healthy fizzy alternatives
You can enjoy a drink or two of soda every now and then. But things can turn ugly quite fast, especially if you start to develop an irresistible taste for it. But before you even reach that point, try to stop drinking soda altogether by considering those tried and tested carbonated alternatives available. These alternatives can help you get rid of your craving for the sweet beverage over time. Try to choose those sugar-free fruit beverages or sparkling and non-sweetened carbonated drink the next time you crave for a carbonated treat.
Don’t believe the diet soda hype.
With shrewd marketing methods, soda companies have convinced a lot of people that diet soda may be the healthy alternative. The lower calories it promotes on its container seem to give people this perception that it is ok. Worse, they might begin to think that they are allowed to drink more diet soda, believing that they take in lesser calories than when they drink regular soda. They sometimes would even forget about it and start drinking uncontrollably. In a way, this can also lead to another addiction to replace the previous one. The best way to avoid drinking too much diet soda is by believing that they are not good to your health, no matter what.
Drink more water instead.
Water is still the healthiest alternative when it comes to beverages and drinks. The problem is that more people tend to drink more soda if they consider it as their primary thirst quencher. But the reality is that sugary carbonated drinks are not that effective that way. The sugar rush resulting from a drink of soda and the sudden dip afterwards can trick the brain that it may need more sugar. It also tends to make you become thirstier. The calories will just pack up the pounds eventually as well. To stay healthy, you will be better off drinking water instead every time you get thirsty. Try to keep a bottle of water handy with you all the time. Make it a habit to take a drink from it for hydration instead of reaching out for a can or bottle of soda next time around.
